Andy, I'm not surprised how clueless you are about crypto-currencies considering your nonexistent programming background. Please try to understand, crypto-currencies are made from computer code, and can be controlled by skilled computer programmers hired by banks (after all, they wrote it to begin with). However much that upsets you!
