Post The non-sociopathic business model
If humanity won’t address the problem of sociopaths directly, by identifying and properly managing sociopaths, then perhaps we can change the environment that we all operate in to reduce the damage that sociopaths do to us all.

I’m going to attempt to design a standard non-sociopathic business model that can operate within the ideal principles of capitalism. It will need to be a WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN model, such that owners, employees, customers, and the rest of humanity all benefit from the business’ existence. While monetary profit will be important, it will not be paramount. What will be paramount is that there is benefit and value to all four listed parties affected by the business and its activities.

I envision that there will be profit sharing with the employees. There will be constraints on the wealth gap between the lowest paid employee and the highest paid company officer. The business will not be allowed to pretend it is a legal person. It is only a construct designed to serve genuine living people.

As sociopaths have consolidated their power over the decades, the sociopathic business model ( 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 ) has become more and more common. The sociopathic business model prevalent today typically benefits the owners at the expense of the employees, the customers, and/or the rest of humanity. Money tends to makes all the decisions in this model, and these decisions are often myopic and harmful in the long run. For example, planned obsolescence is a common characteristic of merchandise today, with no provision made for recycling or refuse management. Sustainability is often ignored in the pursuit of short-term profits. Advertising is often no more than deceptive and manipulative propaganda. Indeed, because sociopaths are leading the big companies today, deception and manipulation are often at the core of the enterprise.

Why can't we do better? I believe we can.

The sociopathic business model is based on the WIN-WIN model where the only two parties defined as involved are the corporations (the sellers) and the consumers (the buyers). No other parties are recognized, despite other parties being affected by the transactions between buyers and sellers. This binary model is often actually WIN-LOSE, with the consumers only believing they have a WIN, because they are being deceived by the corporations. Consumers are often lied to about what they are buying, how good the quality is, how long it will last, what the long term effects will be, etc. Often the "lie" is in the form of undisclosed or deliberately withheld information, so that consumers will not know how their purchases may actually harm them. So deception and manipulation are at the heart of the current business model, which is why I refer to it as the sociopathic business model. This is perfectly understandable when you realize that the corporations are usually being led and directed by genuine sociopaths.

So we want to transition to a WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN model, where owners, employees, customers, and the rest of humanity all benefit from a business’ existence. We want to remove the incentives that cause the corporations (the owners) to deceive and manipulate customers (the consumers), employees, and the rest of humanity. We are assuming sociopaths will always manage to rise to the top and lead the corporations, but we are trying to put a framework in place, a set of rules, that will constrain the sociopaths and limit their opportunities to deceive and manipulate the bulk of humanity. I know... this is asking for the impossible, because sociopaths will find a way around the rules and the framework. It's what they do, and they will never stop doing that. The real solution is to identify sociopaths and disqualify them from positions of power and control, like the leadership positions of corporations. So designing a WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN model is doomed to failure if sociopaths are left unidentified and unmanaged, as they always have been. But such a 4WIN model would make the sociopaths more visible, precisely because they would always be trying to skirt around the rules and undermine the framework. And that would have value in directing us towards the real solution, which is always to identify and manage the sociopaths.
