Post subject:  Mercury

Mercury is the only metal found in a liquid state at room temperature, which is certainly different. As a child, I played happily with blobs of mercury, which is currently frowned upon due to its toxicity. Mad hatters were mentally impaired due to their frequent exposure to mercury.

The Nazi Bell project allegedly used counter-rotating drums of mercury to produce anti-gravity effects and time distortions.

This interesting article discusses why mercury is a liquid at room temperature by taking into account quantum molecular dynamics.

Note that the melting point of mercury calculated by the study above using relativistic effects was 250 Kelvin, or -9 degrees Fahrenheit. The actual melting point of mercury is 234K, or -38 degrees Fahrenheit. The study claimed the calculated melting temperature was "in excellent agreement with experiment". Well, relatively speaking.
