 How to avoid long posts
Please consider linking to long articles using the URL tag rather than doing a "copy and paste" of the article into your post. This would provide several benefits: - It sources the original material.
- It provides more focus on YOUR original comments.
- It better accommodates the short attention span of most humans. Short posts are more likely to be read.
- It helps reduce the size of the forum backups.
- It keeps the topic areas smaller and reduces screen "bloat".
As administrator, my primary concern is #4, but there's an opportunity here for everyone to benefit from this small change. Please keep this in mind.

Re: How to avoid long posts
Also, avoid quoting entire posts from other users. The quoted user name is already a convenient link back to the original post, which the reader can click on for reference.
When you click on the "Quote" button, the software quotes the entire post initially into the text editing box, but you can easily select and "cut" unwanted text to leave just a few pertinent lines to be quoted.
Remember to use the "Preview" button to verify that the post looks the way you want it to look before you "Submit" it.

Re: How to avoid long posts
Just a reminder that excessive quoting should be avoided. I'm seeing a lot of posts that quote lots of previous posts just to add a line or two of new comments. Please just quote a few pertinent lines of any previous posts. The previous post is still there, and there's a link back to it, so there is usually no need to have the post repeated over and over again.
This is primarily an issue of controlling the rapidly expanding size of the database backup.
If there are no objections, I would like to edit the worst offending posts and shorten the quoted posts down to a few lines.

Feel free to edit any of my quotes if you feel they are too long. I try to shorten them but sometimes have trouble lol.

Re: How to avoid long posts
Gotta admit, there are times when things need to be quoted more than once!
