Anonymous 'threatens' to take down Facebook in Operation Global Blackout

http://rt.com/usa/news/anonymous-facebook-cbs-loic-493/

The next target very well might be Facebook.

The shut-down of the file sharing site Megaupload last week prompted thousands of users to participate in an Anonymous-led attack on opponents of the service, which left the websites for the FBI, Department of Justice, Motion Picture Association of America and Universal Music Group, among others, momentarily crippled.

The move, believed to be the largest Anonymous-led online initiative in the group’s history, was continued during the weekend when operatives participating managed to divert all traffic away from CBS.com. For around 20 minutes, the television network’s main site was unavailable on the Web to surfers across the world. Additionally, a second assault on Universal Music Group, or UMG, was waged and once again rendered the site unavailable. Universal is the largest record label in America and already revealed itself as an opponent to Megaupload before last week’s raid.

Sunday’s take-down of CBS.com and UMG was also accompanied by similar initiatives on foreign websites linked to anti-copyright legislation, including Polish and French government sites. According to some alleged Anonymous members, however, the bombardment doesn’t stop just there. In a new video uploaded to YouTube on Monday, a person claiming to work under the guise of Anonymous announces plans to take on the social networking giant Facebook in the coming days.

Anonymous could be anybody.

Transparency above all.

Looks like game on.

I was placing my money on the solar flares to take out the communications.

If this happens it is good to have a supply of food and water like TH suggests.

Andy, you are in a good position for self-sufficiency. Get some of those Solar Cookers.

Yes I am, plenty of easily assessable pristine ground water on an Island of about 600 sq miles of pine forest stocked with wild pigs, feral Black Angus cattle and the worlds third largest Barrier Reef for all my free seafood goodies.

Did also mention the half dosen or so variety's of Banana?

Post Re: Russia Today
Free press not-so-free in America

Freedom of the press is praised as a pillar of American democracy, the cornerstone of a free society – but American press is not as free as most think.

Arch Puddington, the director of research for Freedom House, said “The United States has the freest environment for the press in the world.”

But journalists have been under attack in the United States. Their first amendment rights has been violated and their status as the watchdogs of democracy, dismissed.

“I myself have been arrested as a member of the press,” radio host Alex Jones said.“I’ve seen other press arrested and they say do same thing, move to this area, then once you do that, they still go ahead an arrest you.”

During the 2002 World Bank meetings hundreds were arrested, including journalists like Debra Kahn.

“The charge was resisting to disperse and that was on our record until settlement came through,” Kahn said.

Journalists say they are censured by the police because the press captures their treatment of demonstrators.

“They know the media is a serious check and balance against government tyranny,” said Jones.

And it’s not just while covering demonstrations. Some journalists feel their liberties have been threatened when they’ve challenged America’s so-called war on terror. [Link to story]

Gunboat diplomacy: America launches Persian Gulf surge

Washington is planning to deploy even more ships, subs and choppers to the Persian Gulf despite the fact that it already stations aircraft carriers in the region. This was confirmed by Chief of Naval Operations Jonathan W. Greenert.

Speaking during a Friday breakfast in Washington, Greenert told reporters about the bold plans to deploy more patrol boats, minesweepers, Sea Stallion helicopters and drone subs – all keeping an eye on Iran, which is clearly uncomfortable with being surrounded by the warships of a hostile country.

While Greenert had already announced plans to up the number of minesweepers in the region to eight on Wednesday, his latest statements shine a light on the Navy’s long-term perspective.

First of all, Greenert talked about deploying five more patrol boats equipped with Gatling guns and close-range missiles capable of hitting Iranian shores from four miles away.

“It’s like being in an alley with a rifle and maybe what you need is a sawed-off shotgun,” he said, talking about the Gatling guns.
