I suggest that whether or not there is personal info on the wider net about someone, does not mean it is acceptable to put it on the forum. We use avatars for a reason. GW's situation is good example of what can happen.

If you wish to put your own info...i.e. use your own full name, or pic, that is your choice.

Agreed. So let's address this specific issue as a group.

There are supposedly two references somewhere on UP that indicate GW's very general location (narrowing her location down to within 1,000,000 square kilometers). GW herself could only find one of those references. I had to read the post she pointed to twice before I could figure out what the offending information was. I refused to censor that information primarily because I don't consider it to be private personal information.

So the question I put to the UP membership is this:

Is information that can place you somewhere within a million square kilometers on this planet considered private information?

As you consider your answer, frame that question between two similar questions.

1. Is information that you are located on the planet Earth considered private information?

2. Is information that can place you somewhere within a 100 km radius on planet Earth (within 31,000 square kilometers) considered private information?

Or, if you need a more concrete example, suppose someone remarks that another poster lives somewhere in Brazil. Is it the responsibility of the UP administrator to censor that information?
